Simulation systems for the Space industry

We have been developing simulators and simulations infrastructure for the European Space Agency for use throughout the programme lifecycle. We have put this experience to use with other satellite operators world-wide

Telespazio VEGA has been the driving factor behind the development of the generic ESA Simulation Infrastructures, developing the System Concept Simulator for CDF, integrating the engineering domains into system simulation, maintain the SIMULUS infrastructure at ESOC, and deploy simulations in a Cloud.

At the core of the generic infrastructure is the simulation standardisation. We continue to support the standardisation of ECSS SMP2 and provide training and consultancy on SMP2.

For many years now, Telespazio VEGA has supported our clients in the space domain, most notably ESOC, in the planning, management and delivery of the training campaigns that precede any critical operational phase of a mission. Such campaigns are a series of full day simulations in which the full mission team participates.

The training scenarios are realistic, using the actual operations systems, with the exception of the spacecraft which is replaced by a high fidelity simulator.

Simulation Systems for Defence Training Systems

In the Defence sector, Telespazio VEGA has developed training solutions for a number of military aircraft, particularly helicopters. Our high-fidelity simulators are used for simulation-based flight training (Cockpit Procedure Trainer), but also for technician training for land, maritime and air vehicles, and operations training for land and maritime applications.

Telespazio VEGA offers end-to-end training solutions, which include Training Need Analysis, training content and system development, and training delivery. Our approach is to create a realistic environment in which hands-on training is enabled. We base our offer on our 35-year track record in the field of Aerospace and Defence operations. Combining our knowledge with our expertise in learning best practices, allows us to develop and implement bespoke training solutions, tailored to the learning needs and requirements of our customers.

Simulation Solutions for the Aviation Domain

For clients in and around the aviation domain, we have developed a number of smart simulation solutions for performance and impact assessment. Irrespective of system complexity, simulation models are used to evaluate, validate and predict effects. Whether it concerns the integrity of GBAS GAST-D under ionospheric disturbances, noise effects of changing air routes or radio propagation between ground and airborne systems we develop leading edge mathematical simulation models. These models form the basis of our assessments.

With increased use of GNSS over terrestrial navaids GNSS will play an increasingly more important role in Aviation. Even in critical flight phases and conditions such as non-visual approaches safety-of-life GNSS applications aims to become the primary means of navigation, putting strong requirements on integrity.

Using, and building further on, the GNSS simulator Galileo System Simulation Facility (GSSF, www.gssf.info) built under an ESA contract by an international consortium led by Telespazio VEGA Deutschland, GNSS raw receiver measurements can be generated under various environmental conditions. These simulated measurements allow GNSS performances to be evaluated under normal as well as challenging scenarios. GSSF has already been used for performance assessment of GBAS (CAT-I) and to develop and evaluate RAIM algorithms not only for current GNSS constellation, but also for future (multi-) constellation and next-generation multi-frequency receivers. Additionally, we develop software tools for estimation of parameters such as precise ionosphere delays on GNSS signals and multipath.

Navigation Services for users of GNSS-Data

Aviation noise is an increasingly hot topic in the aviation sector, society and politics. By combining a large number of data sources, such as radar/ADS-B data, BADA, DEM, population density, ANP, and models, such as flight simulation, noise calculation, we are able to evaluate noise impact at high detail, with flight-by-flight contributions. Our calculations are transparent and ECAC Doc. 29 compliant.

In addition, we develop innovative noise exposure metrics for analysing the noise load changes resulting from an approach and departure procedures in the wider airport environment.

Signal availability and knowledge about the reliability of your datalink connection are becoming increasingly important. This is as much the case for applications using GNSS data, but also for mobile network providers and the general public. 

Using our in-house developed and validated radio propagation solution SPECHT (Link zu Product Fact Sheet SPECHT), we can perform both fast time simulations as well as multi-agent, multi-source real-time evaluation of radio signal link budget under influence of topology, weather and ionospheric state. Developed around a Service Oriented Architecture, SPECHT can be implemented in both tactical as well as mission planning environments.
