The Position

Climate change is affecting our life more and more, therefore not only weather forecasting but also Earth Observation are facing new challenges. New needs for higher temporal, spatial and spectral resolution, new instruments, all this becomes reality with the EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS-SG), which will be launched and operated by our customer EUMETSAT in 2022.

For our team on-site EUMETSAT, we are looking for an Instrument Data Processing Engineer to support the development of test data and test tools with a strong focus on the various instruments on EPS-SG.

This position is based at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent and expected starting date will be around July 2020.

We are looking forward to meeting you!

Responsibilities/Duties

Your principal task will be the continuous development of various tools for the overall system and ground segment Validation & Verification (V&V). You will work in strong cooperation with our team and EUMETSAT engineers across the organization. To challenge your skills, we will involve you directly in the V&V of the data processing chains of the different instruments on-board EPS-SG.

Qualifications/Experience

What are we looking for? Maybe for you, with at least 3 years of background in satellite instruments with a proven focus on Data Processing for earth observation.

Of course, you are easily understanding the relating physics processes in such satellite instruments together with a university degree (in the domain of engineering, science or equivalent).

Essential Skills

We need you with professional skills in C/C++, Python, or Java in a Linux/Unix environment and the latest software development tools and methods are your daily business. We don't have to tell you about on-ground data processing systems or test data sets.

Teamwork and one's own initiative is what you enjoy: Capable of working both individually and independently on assigned responsibilities, while you are part of the system team. We are of course looking for good interpersonal and communication skills!

Non-Essential Skills

Ideally, you are already familiar with various types of space-borne observation techniques. EPS-SG satellites will embark sounders and imagers from the ultraviolet to the microwave range. Furthermore, a scatterometer, and a radio-occultation instrument will be part of this future mission.

Your Benefits of joining us

By joining the Telespazio family, you will enjoy all the benefits of a competitive salary in a sustainable work environment, flexible working time models, diverse advancement and training possibilities for technical, language and soft skills, a generous holiday package as well as a company pension scheme. Furthermore, we support you with your relocation. Through our wide network, we can also support your partner in finding a job at your new work location.
